DIY Reusable Cotton Facial Pads
I’ve been working on making my skincare routine more sustainable for some time now and my cotton balls are finally getting the boot.
Skincare and makeup is a place where a lot of us tend to rely on single use items. Cotton balls, makeup remover wipes, sheet masks, and cleansing towelettes can really start to add up, so it’s important to find ways to substitute those products for ones that are more eco friendly (and oftentimes more cost efficient). Exchanging wipes for micellar water, disposable face masks for dry clays, and using reusable cotton pads have been part of that process for me, and that’s why this week I thought I’d share a quick tutorial on how I make this simple DIY.
Tools:
Cotton fabric (I’m upcycling a 100% cotton tee)
Matching thread
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil
Sewing machine
Cut fabric:
With your fabric doubled, cut 2½ inch squares (you can do any shape and size you want, this is just my personal preference). Out of the shirt I used I was able to cut about 70.
Sew:
At your machine, take your double-layer squares and sew around all four edges. If you have a serger this would be a great time to use it, but a basic straight stitch on your machine is perfectly fine.
Trim:
Once done sewing, you can trim away any excess fabric and begin using your new sustainable cotton pads! Use them as you would any regular cotton round and when you’re done, toss them in a mesh laundry bag or a zippered pillowcase to wash with your laundry.
